Why I created Fundflowr
It’s likely you’re reading this because I cold emailed you. (Cold email is basically that I email you without you asking me to do it, in case you were wondering.) You might get hundreds of these emails a month—people selling you web design services, promising marketing campaigns that’ll get you hundreds of donations, but first, you need to drop some serious cash to see any results.
I went through all that nonsense and got tired of it. As a designer and programmer myself, I decided to just do it myself. Is it perfect? Probably not. Do I need your help along the way with feedback? Heck yeah, that would be great. Is this another platform that will eventually try to sell you some stuff? Nope, definitely not. I mean, yeah, we’ve got a premium version, but most organizations are just fine with the free version. So, how do we make money? Will we sell your data to some shady advertisers who’ll start ringing your doorbell or stuffing your mailbox with junk? No! Never! We completely comply with GDPR, and if you know anything about the European Union, you know they don’t mess around with user data, and neither do we.
There are tons of platforms out there that claim they can help your nonprofit grow, do the fundraising for you, and all that jazz. But let’s face it—most of these “wonder” platforms either want you to pay upfront, pay later, or pay when some so-called expert tells you to. The truth is, most platforms focus on the “richer” nonprofits, the ones willing to drop over $1000 on an ad campaign. I mean, if you’ve got that kind of cash, more power to you. But what about the smaller nonprofits? The ones that don’t have that kind of money but still want access to resources, expertise, or just someone to review their proposals without having to swipe a credit card?
After weeks of research, I found that while there are a few low-cost platforms, they’re often selling your data to advertisers who’ll spam you with ads later. So, you end up paying them with your data, and later, with your valuable time. That’s why I created Fundflowr—to give smaller nonprofits the tools they need without all the shady business.
To be completely honest with you, I received some emails from advertisers interested in using our platform to target our users. We literally replied with the following GIF:
So, what does Fundflowr do, and how can we help your organization? Will we hand you thousands of dollars to fund your project? No, we won’t. Fundflowr strictly focuses on providing resources, tools, and expert guidance. We’re not a bank, we’re not a foundation, and we’re not grant writers. Would we like to help you money-wise? Absolutely. But we just can’t. Maybe in the future, though. I really hope so.
Fundflowr is designed to help you along the way, but we’ve also created a forum to connect you with other organizations. Because together you’re stronger, right? Well, yes.
I created Fundflowr because I was tired of grant rejections and the platforms that were supposed to help. They were expensive and lacked the information I needed, offering only basic documents without helping my NGO grow. Seeing other platforms take advantage of the challenges in grant writing, I decided to build my own platform that focuses on providing quality content and resources. Fundflowr goes beyond just grant resources – it provides marketing tools like email templates and strategies, recommendations on essential software, and tips to keep your NGO secure from cyber attacks. It’s a supportive community where we share expertise and offer the best advice. Instead of an expensive premium account, we offer a free version and an affordable premium version with exclusive access.
